Elizabith About Elizabith

Elizabith Frederiksen has been a client, a volunteer and an employee
at Garvin’s Pet Training for six years.

Elizabith first came to Garvin’s for dog training with her American Eskimo Dog, Duchess, when she was ten years old. At the time, no one would teach Elizabith because of her young age, but Karyn did take her, and assigned her to work with Moria. As Moria’s client, Elizabith began two years of Obedience classes, and found her true passion in life.

After Obedience classes were through, Elizabith immediately signed up for Agility classes and soon discovered how dedicated she was to her dog and to the sport. Agility is an intense sport dealing with a variety of obstacles and navigating through them using the bond between human and dog. She competed for a year, winning over fifty First Place awards and twenty Second Place awards, the only Junior Handler who competed at the shows in Tucson.

Eager to expand her experiences, Elizabith volunteered over the summer of 2008 at Garvin’s Dog Day C.A.R.E. every day from ten in the morning until two in the afternoon. She became very familiar with the dogs and their pack behavior, and earned over two hundred hours that summer.

When Karyn learned of Elizabith’s dedication she offered her a part-time job at Garvin’s Day C.A.R.E. for the next summer. Elizabith gratefully accepted, and worked part-time during the summers of 2009 and 2010.

Still competing in Agility, Elizabith expressed interest in volunteering with the trainer teaching Agility on Saturdays. She came for the next year every Saturday from eight in the morning until four in the afternoon, helping to build courses, explain equipment and teach the classes.

When Elizabith saw advertisements for a Canine Musical Class she didn’t hesitate to sign up for it. The other members of the class were a little shocked at first to see someone so young, but after just three weeks they were all blown away. Canine Musical (also known as Doggie Dancing and Musical Freestyle) involves performing a number of tricks to the beat of music, while enjoying the company of your dog. Duchess and Elizabith mastered every trick before anyone else in the class, and they were even asked to join the Club – something that’s rarely offered.

Elizabith is currently being trained and mentored by Moria and Karyn, as well as attending seminars and workshops.
