All graduates of Garvin’s Therapy Dog Training course are eligible to join Garvin’s Divine Canines. We start providing support right away.
Once you and your dog have passed the skills exam, our volunteer coordinator will answer your questions about the application for the national registration. Once your team is registered, the coordinator will assist you with finding an appropriate facility to visit. This could be in a hospital, assisted living facility, skilled nursing home, rehabilitation center, school, or an individual’s home. We also work with other non-profit groups such as Gabriel’s Angels (www.gabrielsangels.org) that provide Pet Therapy Teams to local facilities.
We want to help you stay connected to the Garvin family and learn more about visiting with your dog. Garvin’s Divine Canines hosts a quarterly meeting of the teams in which we exchange experiences, information and new ideas. A wide range of presenters provide knowledge on a variety of topics such as dog massage, dog health, reading your dog’s body language, and facilities who use therapy dogs in their programs. Sharing in this way is both educational and enjoyable.

The support available after passing the test is wonderful. Because there is a coordinator to help direct each team to the right person at facilities, setting up volunteering is a cinch. Finally — they have thought of everything — there is a meeting about every 6 weeks in which we can address any concerns, share information and learn from speakers. What a terrific combination. BRAVO!
